Founded in 1564 by Frederik the 2nd, situated east of Glomma. Fortress from the 1600-century. This is a very beautiful part of the city, with only small wooden houses, narrow streets covered with pavement stones, along the river Glomma; green aerias to stroll. If you want to go to the new and modern part of Fredrikstad, on the other side of the river, you may take the little farry which crosses the river every day. The fortress is now a museum. The fortified town is kind of sepsial, because people are living here, and yu also find small shops, restaurants and the even have their own post-office.
