Logfile from Brass&Steel. Huron Park It's still dark, and the city is quiet thins early Saturday morning. There's not a sould to be seen in the park, but those with keen ears can hear quiet tones floating in the air. Sounds like a guitar... Ruby has just arrived. Strictly speaking she's just passing through the park but the sound makes her stop and listen. There's a melody in there, but not one to be recognised. The style is definitely Spanish, a quiet melancholic air suitable for the wee hours. It comes from the direction of the rose garden. Ruby hmm's and changes directions. It's haunting, in a way. Difficult to not listen to. Ruby says, "changes towards the sound that is" Whoever is playing isn't doing it very loud. As you come closer, the music predictably becomes a bit louder and clearer. It's not hard to follow the sound, and as you walk deeper into the rose garden, you some upon a small "plaza" where a figure is resting on a bench. This figure is obviously the source of the music. Ruby hm's. That figure is hard to not recognize. "We really do seem to run into each other all the time.", she muses... The figure looks up, and smiles. It is indeed the merry mechanic. "Well good morning, miss Ruby. As you say, we seem clandestine to meet all over the place. How are you?" He keeps playing, gently. The melody shifts into a new, less Spanish sounding song. Zach says, "That a Scandinavian at least would recognise as "Du er den enda..." of Lill Lindfors fame..;)" Ruby says, "ahhh." Ruby thinks on that, "I'm fairly okay. Had a dumb day but...I'll manage." Zach inclines his head. "Yesterday was uncool, eh? So what are you doing up so early on a Saturday morning? Off for another photo shoot?" Ruby shakes her head, "Out getting some fresh air and clearing my mind, that's all." Zach nods slowly and smiles. "Yeah, me too. In the city this is a fresh as the air gets at this time of year." Ruby nods, "My point exactly. If I wanted fresh air I'd go to the himmalayas...provided I could stand the stench of yak-piss.", she muses. Zach chuckles softly. "Well you wouldn't have to walk around inside the yak herds, so that shouldn't be a problem." Ruby says, "probably true..." Zach still plays hos guitar, almost uncontiously. The melody meanders and changes subtly all the time. He keeps it quiet en gentle though, so there is no problem talking over it. "So, miss Ruby.. Have you begun to settle in yet? Kicked competition butt and stuff?" Ruby shrugs. "I don't think of it like that most of the time.", she says dismissively. You say, "Oh, right then." Zach shifts a bit and stretches out his neck. Then he smiles rougishly. "Do you think we'll get to see the dragon this morning?" Ruby huh's, "What dragon?" Zach grins. "Oh, haven't you read the papers? Lotsa people saw a dragon here a coupla days ago." Ruby shakes her head, "I haven't had a chance to read it lately. Besides, I don't generally read the local newspaper." Zach raises an eyebrow. Not that it's all that easy to spot in the dusk.. "Oh? I find that reading the local newspaper is a good way to get to know the area. But if you ain't saying for long..." He leaves the question hanging in the air. Ruby heh's, "I plan on it but...I prefer the New York Times or the Washington Post if I have to read american newspapers...and it's hard to come by the London Times in KC." Zach hmms. "They're bound to have that one in one of the newsstands around the Board of Trade.." Ruby nods, "And it's usually three days old. Long live the internet." Zach chuckles warmly. "Yeah, I guess you're right. At least with those computers you don't need to wear gloves reading the paper. No ink." Ruby nods, "Another good point about it.", she says and smiles. You say, "I stick to the inky stuff myself. I'm not all that good with computers." Ruby shrugs, "Neither am I but I do know how to read a newspaper online." The current time in Kansas City is 06:54 AM, Sat Sep 07, 2002. Zach stretches his long lega and finally puts away his guitar as he squints into the sunrise. "Seems we're gona get a hot day today. Times like these I wish that KC was situated near the ocean.." Ada enters the park. Zach and Ruby are sitting on a bench in the rose garden, talking quietly. Zach's guitar is resting in it's case on the gound by his feet. The sun is just rising.. Ruby sighs and is having a guest in the house. I have to go. it's rude to sit online when I have someone here ;) Ada meanders through the park, watching the sun rise and taking in the morning mist. Ruby's beeper goes off, and she has to take off in a hurry. Zach picks up his guitar again and starts picking out a melody to greet the sun. Ada slinks up behind Zach and kisses the top of his head. Zach leans his head back and looks up at Ada. He breaks out into a 10 000 watt smile. "Ada! Lovely to see you! What you doin' up so early, babe?" He stretches to kiss the tip of her chin. Ada leans down and catches a kiss. "Just walking. I don't have to sleep either, you know. I just enjoy it." Zach's eyes sparkle. "Oh right. That ability should come in handy for a computer wiz, eh? Come sit down with me?" Ada says, "Of course." Ada steps around the bench and slides in next to Zach. Ada says, "Did you have a good day yesterday?" Zach thinks if over a bit. "Hm.. Well good-ish, I suppose... It was quite good until that damn snake showed up. After a bit of banter I had to take off to work my role. That did not sit very well with me, but..." He sighs and grimaces. "I'm supposed to stay around town for a long time, so I can't just blow my role all over the place." Ada says, "I understand, love." Ada leans her head on his shoulder. "It's amazing how you can play and talk at the same time.:" Zach huhs. "Oh.." He smiles. "I guess it just comes naturally. I find it kinda hard not to, if I have my guitar in my lap." Ada smiles wryly. "You're fun, Zach." Zach leans over and smoochies her cheek. "Why thank you, my love. You're not all that boring yourself either!" Ada giggles softly. Zach blows gently in her ear before straightening up. Well, more like moving from a sideways slouch to a straight slouch, but hey! "So do you have any plans for the day? The weekend? The next month?" Ada says, "Not for the day. For the weekend... I thought I might go to church tomorrow morning." Zach smiles. "Oh, you like going to church?" Ada says, "It's an enlightening experience." You say, "At it's best I guess it can be. What sort of church do you go to?" Ada says, "The cathedral up the road. It's not the best I've seen, but they do seem to make an effort." You say, "Catholic?" Ada leans in close. "If it's good enough for the Commander and the Judge..." Zach chuckles. "Point. Although the Cloak is said to only be interested in the system and all those blasted rules. That's what I heard in the Groves at least.." Zach grins from ear to ear. Ada says, "The ... groves?" You say, "It's a place in the Upstairs. It's were most of the badasses in Heaven hangs out. You have Michael's folks in the middle, David's underground, and Janus' in the treetops. Great place to party!" Ada laughs. "I wish I could see it." You say, "Oh I'm sure you will get to see it in time. I usually hang out there when I'm Upstairs. At least after I got banned from your Grandfather's place..." Ada laughs. "How did you manage that, O my love? Ada argh! Needs to go. :( Zach idly kicks a small stone and clears his throat. "Well... It was just an accident. It's not like I /meant/ to shortcircuit the surveilance cameras in PneumaTech D. I just wanted to see how they worked... And then things went phooie, and a coupla pals o'mine nicked some stuff..." Zach says, "Oki:)" Ada smiles wryly and stands up. "And I gave you a key to my apartment why?" She leans down and kisses Zach softly. "I love you, angel, but I have to run. See you later?" Zach awws and kisses her back. "Later," he agrees. "Have a beautiful day, love." Ada says, "You too, sweet." Ada goes home.
