Logfile from Brass&Steel. You paged Cosmo with 'Do you know where Harriet lives? You might come upon us there for some Drama. :)'. Zach knocks on the door marked 'Number 4B <4B>'. From afar, Cosmo doesn't, no. Don't want to interrupt if y'all are finishing up. From afar, Harriet opens the door, and stares at Zach for a long moment. Then she smiles slightly, inclines her head, and gestures for him to come in. Terrace Lofts -- Number 4B A large, one-room loft on the fourth floor of the building. To the right of the door is a small kitchen area, with a round, oak table. Around the table sit four well-padded chairs, with tye-dye cushions. To the left of the door is a closet and the door to the bathroom. Straight ahead is the central area. The living room lacks typical furniture, instead there are a multitude of huge pillows in a variety of jewel-like colors, and stools of all shapes and sizes. Art supplies, and art projects in various states of completion dominate the area. Sketches are scattered all over everything. The sleeping area is a small alcove at the far end of the apartment, holding a queen-sized sleigh bed of cherry, a CD player, and a Macintosh personal computer. A nearby bookcase has one shelf of books, one of CDs, and the top shelf is cluttered with framed photos. Posters advertising musicals adorn the walls. Overall, the apartment is in a state of clean disarray. The bed is unmade, and CD cases are in the oddest places, but there's no trash. The only thing in the room that could be said to be scrupulously neat, though, are the art supplies. Their strict order appears to originate from another person entirely. The room smells of flowers, from the numerous filled vases on the table, windowsills, and kitchen counter. You paged Cosmo with 'We're just starting.:)'. You paged (Cosmo, Harriet) with 'Ok, over to multipage. Cosmo, you're welcome to come by. Go +ic, s, s, nw, tl. Isn't that right, Harriet?'. Harriet says, "Zach. It's good to see you." She reaches over and hugs him tightly. "Really good, you know?" To (Cosmo, Zach), Harriet pages: That is, indeed, correct. Zach hugs her very, very tight. "Oh Harriet, I know I said I'd be over in the evening, but I jsut couldn't wait any longer. Are you okay? How are you coping?" Harriet sighs and sags against him. "I'm dealing. Though, I do have something I want to say, you know?" She looks up into his face. "And I'm not saying it just because we're friends." Zach rubs her back, fretting and fussing ever so slightly over Harriet. "Lay it on me, then. I'm all ears." Harriet chuckles weakly at Zach's fussing. "I'm not broken, Zach, you know?" She hugs him again. "I just wanted to say that I want to help. However I can, whatever you need...just let me know, okay? I want to help." To (Harriet, Zach), Cosmo pages: On my way then. :) To (Cosmo, Zach), Harriet pages: Yay! There is a knocking upon the door, coming from the direction of Terrace Lofts -- Landings. Zach beams quietly down at her, looking rather relieved. "I am so glad to hear you say that, hon. I was worried that I'd misjudged your readyness.." Zach jumps. "Are you expcting visitors?" Harriet blinks over at the door, then looks back at Zach and smiles. "I'm still dealing, you know? But I think I'll be okay...who is that? I wasn't expecting anyone, you know?" Harriet shouts, "Come in!" Cosmo has arrived. Harriet smiles at Cosmo, looking a little puzzled, but welcoming. "Cosmo! Hello..." She looks at both of them. "Would anyone like some ice cream, you know?" Harriet and Zach are standing on the floor, quite close. Zach looks maybe a wee bit flustered for a second, but then hides it with a rougish grin. "Cosmo!" Cosmo opens the door tentatively, poking in his head before fully entering. "It's me, Harriet, I hope you aren't busy?" The fedora on his head casts a weird shadow on his face at this angle. He steps across the threshold, blinking at Zach's prescence. "Well, hello Zach. And I'll pass on the ice cream, thanks." Harriet nods, and steps away from Zach. "Well," she says with a tired smile, "/I/ feel the need for ice cream, you know?" She waves at the apartment. "Please, both of you make yourselves comfortable." She heads for the kitchen. "Zach, did you want some?" Zach smiles to Harriet and trails after her to help getting stuff. "Yes please, I'm a sucker for ice cream. But you knew that, right?" Over his shoulder he asks Cosmo, "So whatcha doin' over here, man? If you don't want ice cream, I mean?" Cosmo takes a careful look at the apartment, studying the chaotic jumble. He gets out of his coat and hat, laying those across the back of the chair. He gives Zach an odd little look as those two head to the kitchen. He saw how close they were standing. He takes the chance to look at the books. "Oh, I just thought I'd stop by and say hello to Harriet. A social call you might say." Long distance to Cosmo: Zach thinks, "Ahah! A rival!" Cosmo pages: No, no. Though he will encourage her toward Zach if he finds out Lucian is a demon. Harriet sighs, smiles a bit, and stops. She turns around and faces Zach, and makes a shooing motion. "Zach, my friend, I'm perfectly capable of navagating my own kitchen, you know? Sit, relax. If I need help, I'll ask." She smiles over at Cosmo, and nods. "It's good to see you. Would you like anything at all? I have sweet tea, coffee, juice, and milk." Long distance to Cosmo: Zach grins. Zach grins and suffers himself to be shooed. "Allrigh, allright..." He ambles over and gathers himself a heap of pillows that he proceeds to floomp down into. Cosmo puts his hands behind his back as he peers at the rows of books and CDs. "Juice would be wonderful, please. Thank you." He calls back. His brow arches just a bit at something on the shelf. He straightens up and adjusts the lapels of his sportcoat as Zach makes himself comfortable. Yes, he's wearing a suit on Saturday. Harriet sighs in a bit of relief, and nods at Cosmo. "One juice, and two ice-creams coming right up, you know?" She busies herself getting bowls and glasses and filling them with the appropriate items. "How have you been, Cosmo? Enjoying the weekend, I hope?" Zach lounges contently in the pillow-nest, occationally glancing furtively at Cosmo, but not quite frowning. He keeps silent for now, content to listen to the light conversation going on. Zach is a tall man, probably about 6'3". Slim, well built and rather handsome, his apperance is one of goodnatured machismo. He carries himself well, with an air of cheerful confidence and a flirtatious sparkle showing in his green eyes. Movements are smooth and precise. His hair is relatively short cut, black and wavy. A workman's tan is visible, and hints to much time being spent outdoors. In the clothes department he sports black jeans, a black armless t-shirt and a black leather jacket. The jacket is a typicel biker's jacket and has obviously seen a lot of wear. It is however well cared for with no visible tearings or holes. The boots are black Doc Martens. Cosmo settles into a chair. He crapes one leg over the other. "I am, in fact. Despite the cool weather. I am even considering going to one of the local franchise football games tomorrow. If they are playing in town this weekend." He just offers a smile to Zach. Harriet grins. "That sounds like fun. Mind you, I'm not a big football person, but all the people, you know?" She returns to the table, placing a tall glass of juice in front of Cosmo, and the bowls at two other places on the table. She looks with amusement at Zach. "Thou shalt not eat ice cream on my pillows. Ah, I forgot the cinnamon." She returns to the kitchen to get the spice. Zach groans in disappointment. "Awwww man! Ain't that just typical! Just when I found the most comfy and relaxed position here. Dang and darnit!" He heaves a theatrical sigh and gets his bum off the pillows. He comes over to the table and lowers his ong self into a chair that just happens to be in front of one of the ice cream bowls. "Mmm.... Ice cream.. Are you sure you don't want any, Cos?" Cosmo takes a careful sip of his juice. "I'm positive. It's a bit chilly out for ice cream, in my opinion. What about the two of you, enjoying the weekend so far?" He sits at an angle in his chair, leaning against the back of it to watch the other two. Harriet chuckles at Zach's theatrics as she rummages in the spice cabinet. She snags the bottle of cinnamon, closes the door, and leans her forehead against the cool panelling. At the sound of Cosmo's voice, she straightens, and smiles a bit. "I've had better, you know?" Understatement of the century, there. She brings the spice back to the table and offers it to Zach. Zach is a tall man in his thirties, probably about 6'3". On his right upper arm is a magnificent, intensely colored tattoo depicting phoenix sinously rising from an inferno of flames. In the clothes department he sports black jeans, a black armless t-shirt and black Doc Martens. Zach smiles warmly upp to Harriet. "Thanks hon." To Cosmo he says, "It's been an eventful few days, so I'm kinda enjoying the quiet." Harriet is a woman in her early twenties. She's below average in height, and thin and pale, as if she doesn't get out much. She has short-cropped, unruly, dark brown hair, and green eyes. Her round, open face seems as if it's used to doing a lot of smiling. A pair of gold-rimmed glasses perch--slightly askew--on her nose. Harriet is wearing a sweater with a Halloween scene, warm and fuzzy looking black sweatpants, and an expression of unhappiness. Her face is wan and pale, and thick, purplish bruises lurk under her eyes. Cosmo: Not a particularly tall man, perhaps five and a half feet or so in height. Dark hair cut neatly, going to grey at the sides and indicating he is perhaps in his later thirties or early forties. Wrinkles at the corners of his brown eyes also indicate his age. His thin, sharp face gives him a serious demeanor. He is clean shaven, without a touch of facial hair. There is a faint scar in the cleft of his chin. He wears a suit. It is a simple, conservative cut. The suit is black, white shirt and a black tie. The clothes fit well on his trim form. Black wingtips complete the look. The cufflinks are silver with obsidians. Cosmo offers Harriet a sympathetic smile. "There has been quite a bit of excitement the last few days, that is certain. He watches her take her place at the table. He taps his fingers on the tabletop, trying to decide whether to inquire further. "You can say that again," Harriet says, and sighs as she takes the cinnamon for herself, and dribbles a little on the dessert. She takes a spoonful of the ice cream, and looks for a while at Zach, then switches her attention to Cosmo, expression thoughtful. Zach digs into his encinnamoned ice cream with pleasure, but he can't seem to stop casting little, worried glances over at Harriet when he thinks she's not looking. Softly he offers, "It'll be okay again you know, Harriet.. We'll see you through this thing. Shock'll wear off given time... Right, Cos?" The quick look he offers Cosmo without Harriet seeing, suggests clearly that Cosmo better damn well agree here. AutoJudge: Harriet rolls: 4 + 5 = 9 . Check die: 3 Harriet says, "Darn. She's too tired to notice the Mother Hen glances. :)" Zach phews! He's not gonna get yelled at! Yet... :) Since he's flanking her, Cosmo leans forward and stretches out an arm to rub the back of her upper arm. "Of course. Whatever it is, we're here for you." He gives Zach a curious glance, then looks back to Harriet. He doesn't need much coaxing to agree to that however. Even if he's a little clueless. Surely the killing hasn't hit her that hard... Harriet smiles at Cosmo reassuringly, and throws a Look at Zach. "Dam...Darn it, Zach, I am /not/ going to break, you know? I appreciate the concern, but..." she shakes her head, "I'd appreciate it if you'd stop acting like you expect me to shatter into a thousand pieces. It is /not/ reassuring." She thrusts a defiant mouthful of ice cream into her mouth. Oopsie! Careful with the fussing there, Zach. The sucker for ice cream can't help but grin at Harriet, obviously pleased to see her in such determined spirits. "Sorry hon, it's just... I tend to fuss around when someone I care about is going through a rough spot." Letting go of her arm, Cosmo takes another sip from his juice. "Has something else occured?" He asks, looking from one to the other. There's /something/ going on. That's for certain. "If you'd rather not discuss it, i understand 'None of your business, Cosmo'. But I'm curious." Long distance to Cosmo: Zach is trying to ping. :) Zach leans back with his bowl and looks intently at Cosmo over Harriet's head. AutoJudge: Zach rolls: 3 + 1 = 4 . Check die: 3 From afar, Cosmo figures that's successful? You paged Cosmo with 'Ha!:) Most and least noble act last week, 3 most OR least noble acts last year.'. Cosmo pages: Okay. It'll take me a second. Lemme think. Harriet looks at Cosmo. Looks at Zach. She goes hmm, and stands up, looking down at her ice-cream thoughtfully. "I feel the sudden need to take a shower." A wan grin lights up her face. "I think that if any two of us were having this conversation, it would be going differently." She walks over to the bathroom. "I'll be back in a little while. Please help yourself to whatever, if you're hungry or whatever." She smiles at both of them. Harriet has to go Away for a few minutes, so this is good. Zach grins! :) Cosmo pages: Least Noble (Last week): Leaving Harriet's party early. You paged Harriet with 'This has been a wicked scene so far :)'. Cosmo says, "Perfect actually. :)" The bathroom door closes, and shortly, the sound of running water can be heard. It would probably drown out any conversation from the larger room... Harriet pages: Hasn't it? And since Cosmo pretty much promised to "clear up confusion" the next time she talked to him...she's being Polite. ;P Harriet goes Away! Cosmo pages: Most Noble (Last Week): Helping strengthen a man's faith. Cosmo pages: Three Most Noble (Last Year): 1) Killing somone preying on veterans, 2) Cleaning up a wasteful charity, 3) Helping a friend start a business of her own. Cosmo stares back at Zach, glancing up as Harriet leaves the table. "Perhaps I should have reigned in my curiosity." He doesn't sound like he should have though. Not one bit. He waits until the shower is running and then lowers his voice. "Zach, I need to tell you something. And I think it is important I tell you now. Try not to react to loudly. I'll give you a minute to prepare." Harriet pages: Harriet's apartment is going to become a Tether of Litheroy at this rate. Zachs eyebrows made a small jump as he looked into Cosmo's eyes, and now he quirks a very small smile. Slowly he drawls, "I think I'm about to like this..." The smile seems be of a mind to widen and soon. Long distance to Harriet: Zach laughs! :) With all the cuddling I've put in, Novalis should be interested as well! :) Harriet pages: Oohs. That'd be cool...maybe then she could keep plants alive in here. Long distance to Harriet: Zach *LOL* Cosmo grins. It's a positively unrestrained expression of pure joy. He stands up from the table. "I think you will as well. We are Choirbrothers, Zach." He casts a glance at the bathroom door. He's expecting an embrace and doesn't want to get 'caught'. "My name is Kosimeos." He adds. Zach isn't one who needs to be asked twice. Not when there are brotherly hugs to be exchanged! He hops up and embraces Cosmo with a huge grin plastered all over his face. "Well shove me in a sack and call me Rasputin! I knew there was something I liked about you, mate!" he exclaims. In a slightly lower voice he adds, "My given name is Arethas." Cosmo hugs Zach fiercely, thumping his fists against the fellow 'kite's back. "A great pleasure, Arethas." He squeezes once more before releasing. He stays close a moment, just enjoying the contact with another of his kind. A moment worth savoring. "I have been aware for a while who you are, but I needed the right moment to reveal myself. This seemed it." Zach laughs. "About damn time, bro! I was seriously beginning to wonder about you and why you were sniffing around Harriet." He chuckles and reaches out to give Cosmo's arm a squeeze as if to check that he's really real. "Dude I'm so glad you're here! There's a lot of work to be done in this city. Can I ask you's your Boss?" He takes in the Suit. "Lemme guess... You're too friendly to be Dominic's and you're doing business work.. You hang out over at Bo Ling's a lot dontcha...?" He beams. Cosmo grins, chuckling softly. He keeps a hand on Zach's elbow. "I definitely do not work for Judgement, no." The smile he gives is a sly one. "But yes, I spend a great deal of time at Bo Ling's. Working for Marc has it's advantages." He takes a deep breath. A glance at the door again, still checking. "I have some speculations as to whom you might serve, brother, but I won't ask considering the current situation in Heaven. The important thing right now is Harriet." Zach smiles and stands proud. "I don't mind. My accounts with the Cloak are all balanced. I am a servant of Creation, but the Wind holds my Heart for the time being. And you're absolutely right - Harriet is the important one here. I'm recruiting her." "I've revealed myself," he adds. Cosmo chuckles softly at that, thumping Zach on the shoulder. "Good man." He glances around the room, at Harriet's various belongings. At the condition of the place. "That's exactly what I was hoping to hear. I believe she has Potential, but I don't think she suits Trade at all. I had planned to reveal myself to her at well and hope that you served Who I thought you served." This is working out better then he planned. You paged Harriet with 'Well, you're certainly a special case!:) Having earned the loving attention of no less than TWO 'Kites.:) And a balseraph as well! Woo!'. From afar, Harriet apparently has a little known skill: Attract Malakite Long distance to Harriet: Zach nods!:) Harriet pages: Lucian's going to choke. :) You paged Harriet with 'If we have anything to do with it, yes he will. >:)'. Harriet pages: Yeah, and /that's/ going to be interesting... *points to Harriet the Pacifist* Zach laughs in delight and bounces in a quite undignified way. "Brilliant! I havent been able to verify if she has the proper Potential, 'cause both of my serapim are AWOL. /But/..." he leans in and lowers his voice into a whisper. You whisper "The showing was Blessed by the Divine Precense. I felt it... I _know_ she is special." to Cosmo. Zach will zip out to get some munchies. Will be back in 20. Harriet, feel free to finish your shower. :) Harriet is finishing her lunch! Will finish shower in a very few...she just needs to go put up the plates. Long distance to Cosmo: Zach got a DI at the showing.:) Cosmo looks a little surprised at /that/. He didn't pick up on it. He gives a nod. "That is encouraging. I think my supposition is correct. I've seen enough of them to believe she is." He straightens himself up a little then. His head bobbing as he smiles broadly. "This news though, that confirms it in my mind." Cosmo pages: Ohhh. You lucky bastard. :) The woman with the flowing wind, yes? Cosmo Grins. Just glad she didn't walk out when we were all huggy. Harriet would be amused, and very glad that you weren't fighting. :) Cosmo hehs. From the area of the bathroom, the white noise of the shower falters and cuts off, and the sounds of someone moving around can be heard. Harriet says, "Is Zach gone to get munchies ICly, too? Or is he just grinning to widely to talk?" Cosmo says, "Dunno. :)" The door opens, and Harriet walks out. A towel is wrapped around her head, and she's rubbing at her hair with one, hand, while the other one waves her glasses around, trying to clear up the fog on the lenses. She peers shortsightedly at the table. "Is everything okay, you know?" she asks, a bit hesitantly? Cosmo is standing close to Zach, not as close as Harriet and Zach were standing earlier. "Everything is wonderful, Harriet." He's actually smiling, his face almost lit up. He glances her way, hoping she's wearing a robe. Harriet is fully dressed, thank you very much. She's not /that/ much of a bohemian artist chick. She slides her glasses back on, and looks at Cosmo carefully. "Wonderful?" She starts to smile a little bit. "Just how wonderful are we talking about here, you know?" You never know with those artist types. "Well..." Cosmo slides his glance over to Zach. It's one of those 'Do you want to tell her or shall I?' type looks. Cosmo was hoping to hear the space alien theory though. Harriet snickers. "She'll probably bring it up at one point, once she's feeling secure enough about all this to laugh." [Public] Lucian says, "Fed. :) Say, y'all are all in the same scene. Mind if I join ya?" Harriet looks from one man to the other, shuffling her bare feet on the carpet and starting to grin. "I think I know how this is going to go, kinda, but I can't ask." She throws a look at Zach. "I promised, you know?" [Public] Harriet grins evilly. "You /do/ have a key. Might want to wait until Zach gets back from being Away, so that the scene can get just that much more fun." Cosmo smiles one of his smaller smiles at her. He moves back to his seat, actually giving Zach a pat on the shoulder as he does so. "I would hope so. You're a perceptive young woman, after all, Harriet." [Public] Lucian says, "Excellent. Tell me when Zach gets back. :)" Zach is back and has Munchies! :) Harriet moves to the table, looking down at her mostly melted ice cream. She's almost dancing from foot to foot, watching them. Her eyes are dancing, although her lips are pursed. "Thank you, Cosmo. But is someone going to tell me if I get to hug people, or what?" Zach is beaming all over the place and dances over to Harriet to lift her up and twirls around with her, ending up right up close and personal with Cosmo. "C'mon man - tell her!" [Public] Zach is back. If you could wait one more pose, it'd be Perfect! :) [Public] Lucian waits. Cosmo stands back up as Zach does his impression of Breshnikoff. "Harriet, my real name is Kosimos. I am a Malakite in service to Trade. An angel of Heaven and Choirbrotehr to Zach. And I am your friend." He holds his arms wide in an uncharacteristic request for the embrace he expects. Harriet beams. Heck, she almost glows with happiness as she squeezes Zach, and then launches herself into Cosmo's arms, hugging him and laughing. "That's wonderful! Absolutely wonderful, you know?" Zach laughs. "Dude, she dunno about choirs and Words and all that yet. Only that Heaven, God and angels actually exist. Not that that seem to slow her down in the least." He keeps on beaming. You paged Lucian with 'You can enter the scene now.. :)'. Lucian has arrived. Harriet says, "Shall we bring in Lucian, now? Let him ruin the party as only he can?" Harriet giggles and waves and hugs Lucian! Zach smirks. Are you sure you ment to say that when he can hear you? :) Lucian hugs Harriet. "Yay party ruination." Cosmo hugs the woman tightly, squeezing her and spinning her around once. He sets her back down and places a kiss atop her head. "Ah. Well, I wasn't sure." He goes about adjusting his suitcoat and tie. Still smiling now. Zach waits for Lucian to pose in. Harriet laughs, grins, does a little dance, none of which helps the towel at all. Finally, she just grabs it off her head and tosses it into the closet. Maybe there's a hamper in there. She stands between the two men, and just beams. There is a rattle of keys at the door. After a moment, the door swings open, and Lucian steps inside, a smile on his face, a small bouquet of flowers in one hand, and a bag in his other hand that looks surprisingly like it holds a bottle of wine. He pauses, cold, as the door opens, and just stares. The truly observant would pick up a brief glimmer of fear in those blue eyes. The two men and the little lady are stading in a tight knot right next to the chairs and table. They are all beaming like maniacs. Harriet stiffens as the key rattles in the lock. Barring the landlady, only one person has a copy. She turns to face the door, the smile wiped from her face as if it never was. She looks at Lucian, takes in the flowers and bag, and trembles. "Lucian..." Zach turns his head as the door opens to reveal Lucian. He smiles as he regards the tall, thin professor. "Professor Szabo.. Good evening." Cosmo hears the keyes and immediately turns his expression to something more appropros for his personality. When Lucian enters, he's got a neutral expression on his face. "Good afternoon, Lucian." He seems perfectly collected. Not the least caught out. Lucian senses "Zach's smile is _not_ nice at all. He seem much to content and happy for this to be good..." Harriet says, "Argh! I have to go downstairs for a few minutes. Assume Harriet is frozen in shock and has gone non-verbal until I return." Zach says, "Okay.:)" Lucian lets the door fall closed behind him. "I suppose, perhaps, that I should have called first, Harriet." He looks over the room. His eyes flicker between the three, and one can see his fingers tighten around the keys and the flowers. Nervous, hmm. Cosmo watches Lucian with calm regard. His hands slipping into his pockets. "Well, I didn't call, I just stopped by. So I wouldn't think it impolite for her suitor to arrive unannounced." He's relaxed, at least for a Suit. Zach gets a move-on! Zach grins. "Indeed. Don't mind us, Lucian. It's so nice to see you, you know." "Lucian..." Harriet says, again, looking at him with an expression too jumbled with emotions to be readable. Her gaze falls to the boquet. "You brought flowers," she says, sounding faintly surprised. From afar, Cosmo loves that expression on a demon's face. That look of fear. Too bad I don't know about Lucian just yet. Lucian shakes the bouquet slightly, as if just recalling it himself. "Da," he says, glancing down, "I did." Again, his eyes flicker from person to person, and linger momentarily at the windows. "Should I not have?" Long distance to Cosmo: Zach grins. Oh yes. The expression in his eyes when he finally figured out my choir.. Mmmmm... Weird things are afoot at the Circle K, as they say. Lucian not imperiously taking control of the situation, Harriet not lighting up like a scoreboard at the sight of the professor, and Zach being almost obsequious with the man has Cosmo's mind running in forth gear and heading for the redline. "Might want to put them in water." He suggests, still watching Lucian closely. AutoJudge: Cosmo rolls: 4 + 4 = 8 . Check die: 6 You paged Cosmo with 'Ouchie? <:)'. Cosmo pages: Actually, I missed it on the roll. No ouchie. You paged Cosmo with 'You missed with a CD6. That means Quiet Symphony for the next 6 hours. Ouchie. :)'. Zach nods at Cosmo's suggestion and touches Harriet's arm lightly. "Why don't you find a vase for the beautiful flowers, hon." Cosmo pages: Is that a house rule? Thought it was just no resonance for 6 - (celestial forces) hours. Long distance to Cosmo: Zach nods. That's what no resonance means, from what I've understood. You can't get in contact with the Symphony (which is what tells you stuff when you resonate). Of course, it's worst for the poker...er...seraphim. :) From afar, Cosmo ohhs. I always just understood it that you can still hear it, in the general sense. But you can't filter out the noise and get any specific signal for that time. Harriet blinks at Lucian. "You don't usually, you know?" She smiles, ever so slightly at him. "They're lovely. Thank you." Running pretty much on mental autopilot, she walks over to a cabinet, and pulls down a vase. She walks towards Lucian to take the bouquet, stops, starts to take a step back, stops, and finally just stands there in agonized confusion, clutching the vase. You paged Cosmo with 'I'm not guarranteeing that I'm right. That's just how I've played it and seen it played. The end result is the same anyway. No resonatin'. :)'. From afar, Cosmo nodnods. That makes sense though. :) Lucian narrows his eyes at Harriet, and sighs, nodding slowly. "I suspect," he says with a resigned tone, kneeling down to place the paper bag on the floor, "That it may help if someone were to catch me up on the conversation I have obviously interrupted. At least, assuming that the conversation is going to continue?" He looks pointedly at Zach when he says this. Cosmo turns away from Lucian after staring at him intently for a moment. A frown flickers across his face and vanishes. He lets out a soundless breath. "We were just discussing Harriet's potential. What with selling one of her pieces to...what was the name of the Durand Gallery. She is well and truly on her way." That's plausible, right? Zach hmms and sits down on the arm of a chair, a look of consern crosses his face as he watches Harriet. He nods to Cosmo. "She's about to make it big. Real big." "Andron," Harriet murmurs, and holds her hand out rather mechanically to take the flowers. She's still not looking at anything except Lucian. "Indeed, she is. I had rather hoped she would," Lucian says with a hint of regret in his tone. Looking towards Harriet, he holds the flowers out to her. "Would you accept these with the affection and congratulations I intend to offer?" Long distance to Lucian: Zach pings. :) AutoJudge: Zach rolls: 5 + 2 = 7 . Check die: 1 Long distance to Lucian: Zach ...and misses. :) Zach looks quite relaxed and just watches Lucian and Harriet with alert eyes. He snakes a hand back to stratch himself on the back. Cosmo isn't quite sure what to do. Something has rattled Harriet. He cats a surreptitous glance at Zach. "That's very kind of you, Lucian." Harriet shivers again, lets out a long breath, and nods. She takes the flowers, and looks down at them for a long moment. Their faint fragrance brings the smallest hint of a smile to her face. "Thank you," she says again. Her mouth opens, and closes, and opens again, but the whatever she wants to say just won't come out. Whisper to whom? Cosmo senses "Zach flashes a signal with his hand at you while it's hidden behind his back, conveniently within your eyesight. The old sign humans use to ward off evil. A fist with the index and pinky finger sticking out like horns. Just a flash and then it's gone." AutoJudge: Cosmo rolls: 6 + 1 = 7 . Check die: 3 Cosmo pages: Whew. Lucian picked up on it. Long distance to Cosmo: Zach ? Lucian smiles at Harriet. "Thank YOU," he replies. When he replaces his keys in his pocket, he leaves his hand there, where it perhaps sits on something. With a raised eyebrow, he looks to Zach. "What of yourself, Mister Ellis? Did you just 'drop by' as well? It seems quite the surprising coincidence, that three people should all drop by unannounced... but stranger things have happened." He chuckles, and glances towards the City Hall work-in-progress, if it's still here. From afar, Cosmo meant Cosmo. I have a character elsemu Named Lucian. Sorry. :) That project is, indeed, still there. It's been moved around a bit, and the sketches are in a different order than they were last time, but it's still there. Cosmo slips both hands into his trouser pockets. He lets one corner of his mouth turn upward at Lucian's question. Divine Providence might be another explanation. He doesn't bring that up. Zach nods affirmatively to Lucian. Stranger things have indeed happened. "I cam by to see if she was allright. That horrible thing that happened over at the Regency that night, the young man that was so brutally murdered, kinda struck her hard. She's been pretty upset about it. I was worried." Harriet smiles tentatively back at Lucian, before backing away to the kitchen counter, and putting the flowers in their new home. Her eyes flicker to Zach, then to Cosmo, and back to Lucian, where they stay, watching him warily. Lucian nods in agreement at Zach. His hand doesn't leave his pocket, still. "It was quite a disturbing event," he agrees. "While I confess my doubts in advance, I am certainly hopeful that the police manage to identify who was responsible. Have you heard any theories put forth?" Cosmo leans against the back of a piece of furniture. His eyes are on Lucian. "I haven't, not yet. It's an unusual case however, which sometimes causes the authorities to excercise more catuion then normal." He glances over at Harriet, giving her a reassuring smile. Zach shakes his head. "No I haven't. Only the stuff that's been in the papers so far. They seem to think that is was some kind of freaky explotion, what with... Um. Maybe we should change the subject?" he suggests gently, with an appologetic smile to Harriet. "We're being inconsiderate, I'm sorry honey.." Harriet smiles weakly at Cosmo, then looks at Zach, and shakes her head. "It's okay. It's actually one of the least disturbing subjects running through my head at the moment," a glance at Lucian. "and that's scary, you know?" She starts to clear the table, not noticing whether people have actually finished with their plates or glasses. Zach has finished his ice cream! :) Zach says, "Are we waiting for me again?" Harriet says, "I think we're waiting for Lucian." Zach phew! :) Lucian sighs as Harriet looks towards him. He raises an eyebrow at her comment. "I would imagine that to be so, da." He looks around the room, and his eyes light on the windows again. "Is now, perhaps, a bad time for my visit?" He looks around. "I imagine I could come back later, da?" Tall and thin, the gentleman at hand stands some six-foot-five inches, but weighs likely no more than one hundred and sixty pounds. Vibrant, sapphire-blue eyes gleam brightly against his otherwise pale complexion. Though he otherwise seems no older than perhaps thirty-five, snow white hair falls down to his shoulders, where it curls just a touch at the end, clearly the product of either quality genetics or expert hairstylists. When he smiles, his teeth are perfectly even, gleaming brightly - again, either genetics or dentistry, but either way an exceptional result. His soft-skinned, long-fingered hands end in perfect nails, with nary a speck of dirt or dust to be found on them. He wears a dark blue button-down, one clearly of high quality, based on the cut. The material is even of pleasant texture, feeling somewhat like suede. His slacks are well-cut khakis, neatly hemmed, with a leather belt. Black polished shoes sparkle. Completing the ensemble is a fine tweed jacket, perfect down to the leather patches on the elbows, and the faint - but strangely pleasant - aroma of pipesmoke. Over the ensemble, Lucian wears a long, thick black coat with a bit of fur lining the collar. Cosmo hasn't finished his juice. But Harriet obviously needs something to keep her busy. He doesn't answer Lucian's question. Not his place. Zach rises and stalks over to stand by the window. "Unless you wanna stay and talk about Horatio's philosophy?" he asks innocently. Zach asks Lucian, that is. :) Harriet closes her eyes for a long moment. She looks at Zach, and frowns. To Lucian, she shakes her head. "You can stay. If anyone in this room values my friendship, they won't fight. Not in my home." She's looking down at the floor as she says it, but her voice is flat, and without compromise. In this, at least. Zach looks over to catch Cosmo's eye. "You have my word of Honour on that, Harriet. I won't betray the sanctity of your home." Cosmo pretends to ignore Zach, he just smiles at Harriet. He walks passed her and rubs her arm. "No fighting. I try to save that for Jiu-Jitsu. Perhaps we could call out for some food, have it delievered?" He looks around the room, appearing oblivious to the tension as he moves toward the phone. Zach lightens up. "Or we could cook something here? I'm a wicked cook and Harrier's even better at it!" Zach says, "Lightens? Brightens? Something like that anyway." You paged Lucian with 'Cooking class with the 'kite of Creation! :)'. Lucian looks around, and shrugs. He removes his hand from his pocket, and takes a few steps towards one of the massive jewel pillows. "You would forgive me, Mister Ellis, if I would rather not see you anywhere near the cooking, hm?" He smiles, blandly, and settles onto it. "I have no interest in throwing punches about. However, if you desire to discuss all the things that Horatio neglected..." He shakes his head. "We may find some fundamental differences, that could lead to heated debate." He chuckles. Cosmo look over to Zach then. "Wonerful idea. Harriet, do you mind cooking? I'll be glad to lend a hand under your direction. I'm afraid my skills as a chef are those of the typical bachelor." He puts the phone back on the cradle. Harriet sighs and looks at all three of them. "I'll cook. The kitchen's not really big enough for multiple chefs, though, you know?" She smiles wanly. "I'll manage on my own. Just..." 'make yourself comfortable' just seems so vastly wrong at this point, "settle down somewhere." She looks at Lucian. "Did you want some coffee? Or anything else to drink?" Zach awws. "You sure we can't help out with anything? Making salad, dressing, peeling stuff?" he begs Harriet. Clearly he has a bit of a kitchen fetish. Then he turns to face Lucian looking quite offended. "And Lucian - I don't _ever_ stoop to screwing up food. Certain things one just does not do. Ever." From afar, Aria thinks if I go eat something I'll be okay though. I slept for about 7 hours or something. Zach says, "Never mind that I'm prone to kamikaze cooking resulting in new and....surprising tastes sometimes. :)" Lucian snorts at Zach, and shakes his head, but he says nothing. Cosmo chuckles and settles in across from Zach with Lucian to his side. Neat how that works, huh? "At least not intentionally." He offers with an amused smile. "How was your day, today, Professor? I hope you haven't spent the majority of it grading papers or something of that nature." Harriet shakes her head at Zach, then pauses. She pulls a loaf of french bread out of the bread box, and a and a container of margarine. She hesitates before adding bread and butter knives. "You can cut the loaf and butter it for the garlic bread, you know?" She places the stuff in front of him, and frowns. "If I have garlic salt. I'm sure I do..." with that, she wanders back into the kitchen. Zach smiles gently to Harriet and tells her, "If you have garlic, I can fix up some garlic butter to treat the bread with?" He tastes the butter to check that it's salt enough. Harriet fetches a bottle of garlic salt, and shakes it at Zach with a small smile. "Only the prefab stuff, I'm afraid." She hands it over. Do the best you can." She returns to the kitchen and pulls out the preparations for lasagna and a pasta salad. Lucian nods his head to Cosmo. "I did not grade papers at all, actually. My students have the weekend to produce more work for me to grade." He chuckles. "I doubt many of them will spend much time on them, however." He sighs. "If one of them does, however, then perhaps I have accomplished my task, nu?" Cosmo laces his fingers together, resting his hands in his lap. "Perahps. I'm sure there are some that understand the importance of balancing getting their work done with partying on the weekend." He glances over at the wine still sitting near the entrance. "Perhaps we should go ahead and open it up, give it time to breathe?" Zach starts to cut the loaf up in suitably thick chunks. "Do you have any herbs like basil, oregano, merian or thyme, Harriet? Fresh or dried, doesn't matter." As Harriet was just adding a few of those to the lasagna, she smiles, and nods. Everything but the merian can be found and hauled over in front of the bread artist. She delivers the herbs and looks at the table, a bemused smile on her face. "This...is deeply bizarre, you know?" She shakes her head. "Not that I'm complaining." Zach reaches out and gently strokes her cheek. "Thanks. You okay there, doll?" he murmurs to her. Consern is showing in his eyes. Cosmo says, "Okay. I have to idle like 15. Food is here. Cos will be fussing over the wine unless Lucian wants to fuss over it." Lucian nods towards Cosmo. "You are correct," he says. "I fear I had not expected dinner - I did, however, purchase a very nice Greek white. It has a charming hint of sweetness to it." He gestures towards the bag. "By all means, have at it, Cosmo," he says. Turning towards Harriet, he smiles blandly, and nods. "It is," he agrees, eyes narrowing at Zach's affection. "However, one would argue that most of existence is deeply bizarre, once you look at it long enough." Harriet nods at both of them, then makes a little sound that might have been a laugh...after being thrown in a wood chipper and danced on for a while by a rhino. She spins around and retreats to the kitchen, and the blessed distraction of cooking. Zach frowns slightly as he watches the retreating Harriet, but leaves her in peace. He focuses on the task at hand again and hmms. Then he gets up and helps himself to a small bowl from Harriet's kitchen. In this bowl he proceeds to place a large chunk of margarine, and then adds liberal amounts of garlic salt and herbs. He crushes the herbs together before adding them to the margarine. AutoJudge: Zach rolls: 1 + 6 = 7 . Check die: 1 Lucian shrugs. Zach has the bread covered, Harriet will make the salad and main course, and Cosmo will handle the wine. This leaves Lucian to sit back, chuckle slightly, and ruminate on the oddness of it all. He watches the rest of them work, in a state of just-barely-relaxed tension. Zach sniffs the concoction and smiles in contentment. "This'll do," he decides and starts administrating it onto the bread. Long distance to Lucian: Zach grins! Lucian once again has his surroundings doing all the menial tasks! :) Harriet finishes preparing the lasagna, and puts in the oven with a slightly over-loud bang. She blinks at it for a moment, then shrugs and closes the door and sets it to cook. "Salad," she mutters, and starts work on that. And never mind the almost audible ticking sound surrounding her. Lucian pages: And Cosmo wondered that I wasn't imperiously dominating the situation. I just had to reassert my dominance. ;) You paged Lucian with 'You're the original Alpha Male, you are! Mike's gonna be _so_ miffed when he finds out. ;P'. Lucian pages: Tee hee. Zach industriously butters the bread with yummy garlic-and-herbs margarine. Whe he's done, he brings the result over to the kitchen for the lady of the house to inspect. He clears the herbs, knives and margarine off the table and return them to their proper places. Conversationally he asks Lucian, "So you're enjoying a weekend off from work then, pro?" Cosmo gets the wine open after a brief search for a cork-remover. "Ahh, I haven't had a Greek wine in a while." He gets the bottle open and pours a single drink into a glass. He swirls it, checks the bouquet, then takes a sip. "Very nice." He leaves the bottle out to breathe and heads back to the table. Lucian chuckles. "Did I say that?" He smiles at Zach. "I suspect that I was more industrious with my time than you have been with yours. I have not suffered." He winks. The bowl Harriet is using to mix the pasta salad with is impressively large and heavy, and makes quite a satisfying bang as she slams it on the counter. She looks at Lucian, eyes blazing. She looks back down almost immediately, but the ferocity with which she picks up the mixing spoon suggests that pulverized pasta salad is on tonight's menu. Zach lifts an eyebrow at that. "Oh okay, that's good to hear at least. Suffering isn't nice... Oh hey, honey.." He moves over to Harriet quickly to rescue the poor, innocent salad. "Take it easy on the greenery now, eh?", he suggests and puts a comforting hand on her arm. Harriet points at Zach, then back at where he was sitting. "Sit down, please." Zach turns around on his heel like a good little soldier and does what sargent Harriet orders. He obediently sits down on his chair. From afar, Harriet patpats. "She just doesn't want you to be in the blast radius, should she explode. Really. :)" Long distance to Harriet: Zach grins!:) Cosmo hides a smile at Harriet's commanding tone. Trying not to let the loud sounds in the kitchen startle him. "I have been following the political coverage this weekend. For a mid-term election, things certainly seem exciting." Long distance to Cosmo: Zach sigh. Trust my luck to make sure that the first Soldierling I try to recruit has a demon boyfriend... :) Lucian's eyes flicker towards the banging salad, and he leans momentarily off the pillow, before nodding, with a smile at Cosmo. "The races have most certainly born some fascinating fruit, nu?" He shakes his head. "I have watched, quite entertained. My responsibilities, sadly, have kept me from more than the sidelines. Of course, I shall be happy to do my civic duty at the voting place, nu?" Leaning back, he smiles. "Ah, Democracy is a fine and lovely invention, nu?" Cosmo pages: Maybe we can Redeem him? :) Long distance to Cosmo: Zach has tried. :) Cosmo pages: That's troublesome then. :) Harriet finishes with the salad, without mangling it too badly, and places it in the refrigerator to chill. "Still has to cook a bit," she tells the group, after checking on the lasagna, and adding the bread. She walks over and drops onto a large, red pillow, across from Lucian. She doesn't contribute to the political talk, instead staring off at the wall over Lucian's shoulder. Zach relaxes in his chair with a small smile. "Yeah it is," he agrees with Lucian. "At it's best anyway. Here in the US one can wonder at times. It seems that the ones with enough money to buy the most air time wins. And those ones don't necasarily have the best political skills." He shrugs lightly. "Well, there are those that would disagree I imagine. Mob rule and all that. But it works better then anything else we've come up with so far. At least when coupled with a free market economy." Cosmo smiles at Harriet as she settles in, reaching over to pat her shoulder. "Smells wonderful already." Lucian watches Harriet sit at such a distance from him, and sighs. With a bland smile at Zach, he says, "That, I believe, is a fault of the voters, who prefer flash to substance. It is a regrettable yet common failing of the species." He shrugs at Cosmo, and chuckles at him. Harriet returns her attention to the here and now and glares at Lucian. Then pain flickers and she inclines her head, acknowledging his point. "Unfortunately, it is all too easy to be taken in by what's on the surface." She smiles thinly, and looks away, towards the oven. Long distance to Harriet: Zach seriously want to have A Talk with Eli about why in the Abyss he stuffed those cherub and mercurian forces into poor Zach! Dammit, they make my heart go all bleedy whenever I see a human in pain! Whenever I see ANYONE in pain! *sulk* From afar, Harriet awwwws and hugs Zach tightly. "There, there. Think of yourself as something new and exciting! The Malarub is a wonderful new Choir..." Cosmo just focuses on Lucian for a moment. "There certainly is the argument that we get the government we deserve. Though I'm not sure you can blame the public for those willing to crassly exploit fear and insecurity." He resists the urge to look at Harriet when she says that. Zach sighs softly and considers Harriet's statement. "I fear you're right, there. But what's even worse is when the inside turns out to be just like the outside. When surface with no depth is all you get. Like the current big wahoonie in DC.." Lucian looks at Harriet, sadness in his eyes for a brief moment before turning towards Cosmo. "Exploitation requires the consent of the exploited. If one is not willing to take the extra step -- do their homework, if you will -- then can success be faulted?" He shrugs, and glances again towards Harriet. "At any rate," he says, "I fear we are boring our host, nu?" Lucian says, "Erm, hostess." Harriet stiffens, and looks at Lucian with undisguised hurt. She opens her mouth to say something, and *Ding!* there's the oven timer. With another look at him, she rises to go get the food before it scorches. Cosmo glances over at Zach, a faintly amused smirk on his face. "And his opponent in the election wasn't noticeably different." At Lucian's words, he goes quiet a second. His gaze turns toward Harriet. This is something of a trial fo her. When she leaves, he looks at Zach intently for a moment. To (Harriet, Zach), Cosmo pages: Heh. She's got to attack-angels ready at the least word. :) To (Zach, Cosmo), Harriet pages: Oh, but love is a many splintered thing. That's how that saying goes, right? ;P From afar, to (Harriet, Zach): Cosmo laughs. Long distance to (Harriet, Cosmo): Zach grins. Harriet, being a southern belle, should recognize the big brotherlyness emitting from the Suit and the Jeans-and-tshirt. Remind me again what Southern big brothers do when they strongly dislike their little sister's beau?:) Ans especially when they think Beau Is Making Sis Cry? :) To (Harriet, Zach), Cosmo pages: As a Southern gentleman, I can only say that we usually have a 'Prayer Meeting' which is code for 'brutal physical assault that makes the beau cry'. Lucian nudges Zach? To (Zach, Cosmo), Harriet pages: This is your fault, Zach. You described him as 'broken'. She can't resist broken...hence her spectacular disasters of relationships so far. :) And no Smiting! Zach chuckles at Cosmo's comment. "True enough. Though they handeled Letterman pretty well, I think. For two pieces of wood anyway." He moves his head ever so slightly in a negating gesture to Cosmo. Zach sorries. <:) You paged (Harriet, Cosmo) with 'Aw come ON!:) I haven't even begun telling you about Stuff! Dangit! :)'. From afar, to (Cosmo, Zach): Harriet hehs. "Shame about that. On the other hand, Harriet not realizing just what Malakim are, at the moment, is a Good Thing." Long distance to (Harriet, Cosmo): Zach nods fervently! :) Lucian looks out the window. "The rain is coming, gentlemen," he comments, and indeed, it is starting to rain in Kansas City. He sits, quietly, watching the window, glancing towards Zach and Cosmo, still sitting just a little tense on his pillow. Harriet pulls out the lasagna and the bread, and sets them on the table, before going back to get the plates and the salad from the 'fridge. She sets the table, and blinks down at it. "I think that's it. We're ready to eat." A smile flickers across her face, "And no, Zach, you can't eat on the cushions." Cosmo stands up and goes to collect the glasses and the wine. He sets those out and pours some into each glass. He settles into his chair. "So it is. More importanly however, the lasagna is here." Zach sticks out his tongue to Harriet and then pouts. "I've noticed, thank you. So I'm a-sittin' nicely on my chair as you can see." He spreads his hands and smiles up to her like a good, little boy. But his eyes spoil the effect, treacherously revealing his inner naughtiness. You paged Lucian with 'Have you any idea where they've hidden the proper weather page in the KC Star? I can only find storm trackers... :('. Lucian pages: I go to Weather.com, and type in Kansas City, Kansas. You paged Lucian with 'Also known as Janus blips...'. From afar, Lucian laughs. No uninvited guests. ;P Lucian rises up from his pillow and walks towards the table, but only after Cosmo and Zach have already reached it. He pulls back a chair, and gestures slightly towards it, smiling at Harriet. You paged Lucian with 'Of course not!:) He'd just steal Our Girl!:)'. From afar, Lucian laughs. Gotta admit, at least my Boss would be a much nicer dinner guest, and not steal Our Girl. ;) Harriet starts a bit, and stares at Lucian for a long, tense moment. Then she walks over and stands in front of the chair. "I have to serve," she says quietly. "But thank you, Lucian." She realizes that this is the closest she's been to him since he arrived, and freezes. You paged Lucian with 'No. He'd just posess Our Girl! I'd prefer her stolen, actually. She might enjoy Eli's or Janus' attentions. ;P'. From afar, Lucian chuckles. Then I'd have to invoke Lilith to help me Free her. ;) You paged Lucian with 'I'd have to invoke Marc to help with the negotiations. :)'. Lucian pages: Leave that to the Angel across the table from you. ;) You paged Lucian with 'True! :)'. Cosmo silent says a little prayer for Harriet. Just a flicker of his lips indicating anything. He looks back up, over Lucian's shoulder at Harriet. Nothing but a smile for her. Zach smiles up at Harriet. "Why don't you put it all on the table, and we'll all serve ourselves? The you can have a seat as well. Nobody" Zach grr. Lucian passes the blanket to Zach. Harriet says, "Hot water, table one!" You say, "Nobody's gonna do anything stupid here, you know." Harriet says, "Quite frankly, I'm amazed that we got this far without some serious breeding before now. :)" Zach wants drugs dammit!! Zach snickers. Cosmo chuckles. Lucian says, "Sorry, wrong Demon. But I bet I can call on the *cough* Archangel in question... ;)" Zach wonders if Cosmo has been introduced to the breeding in-joke? Harriet says, "Get Cosmo to the wonderful quote page!" Cosmo is clueless. Zach can call on herbal Archangels too! Zach says, "http://www.pvv.org/~solas/innomine/brassquotes.html#link16 And scroll down the the OOC quote. :)" Harriet sighs and bows her head. "It was a bad day." Lucian chuckles at Zach, and nods. "If you would require assistance, Harriet, I would provide such," he says, voice soft. He hasn't moved away from her yet. Zach had a similar incident a couple of days ago. Fortunately wasn't logging.:) Cosmo chuckles. Harriet cranes her head back to look up at him, and shivers. A deep, ragged breath. "Go sit down, Lucian. Please." She shivers again, and turns away to cut the lasagna into equal pieces. Then she sits down, and indicates that everyone can dig in. Two fingers come up to massage her temple lightly, before she smiles at everyone. Cosmo sips from his wine, waiting his turn. He watches Lucian out of the corner of his eye. To (Harriet, Zach), Cosmo pages: Hit him with the dish. The cheese will burn his face! :) Zach also tastes his wine, and smacks appreciatively with his lips. "Mmm. This is really nice. Good choice, Szabo." From afar, to (Cosmo, Zach): Harriet glares and mutters something about bloodthirsty angels. Lucian takes his seat, and nods at the wine. "I am glad you all appreciate it," he says. "It took some hunting up to find a shop that carried this particular year." He smiles, and looks around the table. "Is this not such a charmingly cozy scene?" He laughs, shaking his head in amusement. Harriet just /looks/ at Lucian as she ladles a bit of salad onto her plate. Then she drops her gaze to her own plate, and chuckles. An honest, open, and completely genuine expression of amusement. She looks up at her dinner-mates, and just laughs helplessly. Cosmo looks between the two. Then at Zach. He allows a small smile onto his lips, and then a faint chuckle himself. Sounds more like one of those 'I'm laughing cause so is everyone else' type chuckles. He ladles out his own portion of the lasagna then. And a bit of salad. Zach, shameless glutton for home cooked, italian food that he is, gleefully shovels a potion of lasagna onto his plate, lifts a healthy heap of salad out to the bowl to accompany the lasagna, and tops it all off with two pieces of garliced and herbed bread. He snickers a bit, appreciating Lucian's observation, but there is a tinge of sadness to it. "Aye, it is Lucian. It is. I hope you can enjoy it." Lucian watches Zach heap it on, with a raised eyebrow. Finally, he shrugs, and takes his duly assigned portion of lasagna, and adds a small bit of pasta salad. "I enjoy more than you might think, Mister Ellis. I do suspect, however, that I shall submit it to the scriptwriters for My Favorite Malakite. It would undoubtedly make for excellent television." He smirks, and shakes his head. Harriet looks at Lucian, briefly confused. There's that word again...her puzzled gaze flickers to Cosmo, and she shrugs. She starts eating, thoughtfully. After a while, she says. "Is there any reason we're avoiding the subject, you know?" She laughs a little more, and shakes her head. "It just makes this whole thing that much more absurd, if not." Cosmo eats a bite of his salad. He's chewing it thoughtfuly. At Harriet's look he gives her his best blank look. At her question he sets down the fork. He takes a napkin and wipes the corner of the lip. He was hoping to play oblivious for a little while longer, but it is obvious the jig is up. "How long have you suspected, Lucian?" He stares directly at the Prof. Not bothering with any pretense any longer. Zach sighs heavily at Lucian. "This could be real, you know. If you could find the courage and humility to seek it out. The choice is there, as is the offer - open." Lucian ignores Zach, and turns to Cosmo. "It has not been very long, Cosmo - would you like me to continue calling you such?" He cocks his head, slightly. "For the most part, I rather believed you to simply be a naive, workaholic nebbish." He chuckles. "I stand by the naive point, and I rather suspect you are indeed a workaholic." He shrugs. "And you are an arrogant pain in the ass, Lucian," Harriet says serenely. And I'd like to remind everyone that this is still a no-fight zone, although I reserve the right to bean certain people with the salad bowl if they become too provoking, you know?" She snickers a bit, and eats a bite of lasagna. Cosmo responds calmly, not letting the insults nettle him. "He's right. You can come in out of the rain, Lucian. Regardless of what they've told you. You can call me Cosmo, if you wish. I'd rather this be real and have you call me brother though." He sounds very sincere about that. Very sincere. He takes a bite of bread then, chewing it thoughtfuly. Zach silently lifts his glass in a toast of agreement with Cosmo's words. Lucian smiles at Harriet, and inclines his head. "Let the record show that the hostess has reserved said rights of salad-bowl enforcement," he says with a chuckle. He glances towards the window again. "I am in out of the rain," he says, gesturing with his fork towards it. "As for yourself, Cosmo, I would extend the same comment to you -- or have I sat down with two of Heaven's personally-approved Demonic brute squad at once?" He arches an eyebrow, tone acid. Harriet winces a little at the word 'demon'. "They aren't brutes," she says firmly, leaving all the comments about switching sides alone. "They are my friends. Of course," she heaves a sigh, "so are you, which I suspect will confuse me very much when I can think again, you know?" She frowns and tastes the wine. "It is quite good," she says, lagging behind the rest of the group in Drink Appreciation. Cosmo chews another bite of his lasagna. Mulling it over as he mulls over Lucian's words. "You just /think/ your in out of the rain." He pauses, studying Lucian but not answering the question. "Were you born down there, Lucian? Do you just not know any better?" He glances over at Zach. To Harriet, and then to Lucien again. Zach grits his teeth and goes into a dead calm. He calmly takes a drink of his wine and calmly devours a mouthful of lasagna. Then he calmly notes that, "That rather tasteless piece of Hell-joke is as old as the boot mark on the Lightbringer's backside. And I've told you that before, hellborn." Lucian smiles, blandly, at Zach. "Strangely enough, it is still as funny as when your dear progenitor Uriel was butchering unicorns for sport," he replies. "I consider myself part of a rather large group of political dissidents." He shrugs, and smiles at Harriet. "Perhaps it would be best if you tell me what has been exposited to date, so that I can firstly fill in the gaps, and secondly, ensure that I do not bore you by repeating the boring bits." The current time in Kansas City is 7:58 PM, Sat Nov 02, 2002. Harriet doesn't appear to really hear Lucian, as she's having a bit of a boggle. "There's a Hell," she says, staring blankly at her fork. "There's /really/ a /Hell/." She points the fork at Lucian. "And you're from Hell." She goes back to quietly contemplating the shiny fork and boggling. To (Cosmo, Zach), Harriet pages: It honestly hadn't occurred to her before. Yes, angels, yay! Broken angels...unyay. But...Hell? Long distance to (Cosmo, Harriet): Zach grins. "Yes Virginia, there is a Hell. And yes, there is a Devil too. And hordes of demons..." Reaching over, Cosmo pats Harriet on the shoulder. He keeps his focus on Lucien though. "I don't think your version of things would be instructive at this point, Lucian." He takes another sip of his wine, unphased by the insults. Yes, he'd like to find inventive ways to make an intimate connection between the wine bottle and Lucian's body. "In fact, if you're hellborn, I doubt you even know the real truth yourself. How can you hope to instruct a mortal?" To (Harriet, Zach), Cosmo pages: And we just can't Kill Them Fast Enough! :) From afar, to (Cosmo, Zach): Harriet laughs at both of them. "You guys...poor Lucian." Lucian fixes Cosmo with a cold glare. "I would imagine you would say so. It is the nature of a dictator to seek the suppression of discussion," he retorts. He looks prepared to say further, and then looks towards Harriet and, surprisingly, subsides. "I had said that this could result in heated debate," he murmurs softly. Zach nods his agreement with Cosmo. "Your 'instructions' usually have the unfortunate side effect of removing the instructees free will to think it over and choose what to belive and what not to belive. And that's not very nice.. If we could trust you to not force your views upon anyone, then I would have no quarrel with you lecturing us all. But, given what you are - I must object." Zach agrees with Cos, talks to Lucian. I'm getting tired, methinks. :) Lucian says, "It's been a very, very long scene." Lucian says, "About five and a half hours long, give or take." Zach says, "Make that nearly 8 and a half...:)" Harriet is watching the, uh, discussion with the stereotypical 'tennis match' bouncing of eyes. "Wait a sec, what's this about removing free will?" She holds up a fork, like a student at school. Lucian says, "True, y'all were here before me." Rolling his eyes, Cosmo takes another bite. He chews the lasagna carefully. "Further proof you don't know what you're talking about. Anyone that's seen a meeting of the Seraphim Council would know better. I'll debate you all you want, Lucian. But I'm not letting a demon pass on Lies as the Truth." Harriet is very impressed with Zach. "You have amazing stamina!" Zach says, "It's Saturday! I slept in real late. :)" Harriet says, "Still. What time /is/ it over there? Four or so?" Zach says, "4:20 in the am." Harriet's Player has a bit of a boggle at Zach. "Wow." Lucian applauds, and is reminded of when he was younger and did that sort of thing. :) Cosmo whoas. Zach says, "....well it /was/ Saturday... And I can only do this in weekends, I'm too old to do it between workdays. :)" Lucian pats Zach on the back. Harriet huggles everyone for sticking with this thing this long! :) Zach says, "It has been a very good scene, I think! Well worth it!" Cosmo says, "This is good fun. :) The reason I signed up here was for this sort of thing." Harriet has had much fun, indeed! Professor Szabo nods towards Harriet-the-Student. "Mister Ellis refers, rather crudely, to his suspicion that I would be forced to utilize my talents for persuasion in making my case hold up." He snorts. "I suspect this is to assuage his pride, which would be severely wounded in a battle of wits that he is woefully ill-equipped to engage in." His lips twist upwards into a sneer. So maybe he CAN'T resist being provocative. Zach says, "Angst, needling, superpowers, politics, Angst, animosity, arrogance, Angst, danger.... How many here will admit to having played Amber at some point? :) *sticks a hand in the air*" Lucian waves his hand happily. Cosmo has never played it. Read it though. :) Harriet says, "Never have. Not, however, from lack of interest." Lucian says, "Ah, where were ya when I was putting together a PBEM, Harriet? ;)" Zach says, "Reading counts! :)" Harriet sighs and admits she hasn't read the system or the books, either. Lucian will have to ship you the books, then. :) Zach mutters. Talents of persuation indeed... Now where'd I put that flaming guitar...? Lucian ;;;) Harriet shakes her fork at Lucian. "You're perilously close to salad-bowl territory, Lucian, you know?" Her eyes narrow. "And why do I get the feeling that we're not talking about just the sexy sound of your voice when you refer to 'talents'?" Cosmo says, "You can get a nifty collection of all ten for like 20 bucks. Media play has 'em." Harriet whines and checks the want ads again. Somebody, hire me! Lucian hugs Harriet. "I hear ya, hon." Cosmo hugs Harriet too. I know that song. Zach joins the hugpile! Harriet is hugged, and feels better. Is still broke, however. Maybe she should have taken Engineering, instead... "Because he ain't Saruman, thet's why.." Zach mutters into his wineglass. Cosmo offers a more concise explanation. "There are different types of demons. Each type has a certain ability. Lucian is, I suspect, a Balseraph. Which means he can lie and force others to believe his lies. Angels have such talents themselves. Though ours are passive, not aggressive. Take from that what you will." He'd almost bet Lucian is going to try to twist his answer. Lucian inclines his head towards Cosmo. "You have named me, Cosmo," he says with a smile. "You have misinterpreted my talents slightly, with no small amount of insult." He shakes his head. "I shall even refrain from replying in kind, and merely elucidate that, as a Balseraph, I am privy to the ultimate Truth: That some Truths are not so True at all. Once one understands that -- as I was trying to bring dear Hachilah to understand, Mister Ellis," Lucian asides, unable to resist another bit of needling, "One can bring a free hand to rewrite that which is unpleasant and replace it with that which is more pleasing to the Self. It is, in its own way, an Art." He smiles towards Harriet. Zach will have to pose out soon, on account of a Need/6 Sleep. :) Lucian says, "Mmm. This could be a rough scene to pose out of..." Cosmo says, "Folks want to pause?" Zach's eyes go dark at the mention of his sister. "And it serves your master perfectly, doesn't it? Having all those little Self's running around creating their own little worlds, forever unable to partake and share in the greater reality of the Symphony. Forever alone in your own minds." Zach can just use the convenient excuse of the cellphone again.:) Harriet gapes at Lucian. "You...you...no." She shakes her head. "No, Lucian. Without some sense of what is True, there's nothing left! Nothing but shadows and illusions, you know?" She looks at him, with genuine sadness. And then her hand clenches around her fork. "You haven't done...that to me, right? You haven't made me believe something that I wouldn't normally believe. It would be violation...worse than rape, Lucian..." her breathing is becoming shallow and rapid, her eyes wide. Lucian had to get Lucian a cellphone for just that reason. ;) Harriet is amiable to either, although we'd have to set a time to resume if we paused. Zach will use the cellphone then. Modern day trumps they are! No need to pause. :) Cosmo reaches out to run a hand on Harriet's arm. A gentle touch to reassure her. But his own eyes blaze at Lucian. He's put down his own utensil, leaving it and his food alone, finally. Lucian says, "Three people, 3+ Celestial Forces. May I Rez the whole crowd at once?" Zach says, "Of course:)" Harriet groans. "Harriet is so going to kick your ass, as soon as she learns how." Go ahead. :) Cosmo says, "No objection here." Long distance to Harriet: Zach thinks Harriet needs to work on certain aspects of her Corporeal Forces prior to kicking serpentine butts. ;P Lucian looks Harriet flatly in the eye. "In spite of whatever either of these individuals may say, advise, suggest, imply, or outright accuse me of... on that specific point I stand as innocent as either of them. I confess I left out certain key details of my nature - after all, I am not really Romanian, for one," he says with a smile. "However, I am beholden to speak the Truth as I see it - however differently from the enforcement of either of these individuals and their absentee divinity it may be." AutoJudge: Lucian rolls: 3 + 6 = 9 . Check die: 5 Lucian says, "Made it. *wipes brow*" Harriet pages: Does Righteous Fury give me any bonuses? :) AutoJudge: Harriet rolls: 3 + 2 = 5 . Check die: 6 You paged Harriet with 'Might do :)'. AutoJudge: Zach rolls: 2 + 1 = 3 . Check die: 2 AutoJudge: Cosmo rolls: 4 + 2 = 6 . Check die: 4 Harriet sighs. Crap. Zach made it. Cosmo says, "Dammit. Didn't make it." Zach wishes he'd got a CD6... Harriet looks at the words, and the resonance. "Somewhere, the Demon of Irony is giggling." Cosmo says, "Wait, am I misunderstanding how it works? I made my will roll, but my check die is lower then Lucians..." Lucian says, "Nope, it's a straight Will roll, not a contest. If you succeed at your Will roll, it doesn't matter how spiffy-keen my roll was." Cosmo says, "Oh. Me still hear truth. :)" Harriet relaxes, just slightly. She's still looking fairly appalled at the very idea, however. "Well, good..." her voice hardens, "but don't you ever do that to me, Lucian. Not ever, you know?" She fidgets in her chair, and looks down at her plate. Zach says, "You don't notice that you've almost been balseraped (pun intended) when you resist, right?" Lucian says, "Nope. For all you know, Lucian may really BE innocent of mucking with Harriet's head. You just don't HAVE to believe that." Zach nods. "'s what I thought." Lucian says, "Takes a Seraph to recognize it." Lucian says, "And even then, they gotta roll pretty high. It's in the IPG, which is around here somewhere." Cosmo is gonna use his Detect Lies skill though. Is there any modifier for dealing witha Balseraph? AutoJudge: Cosmo rolls: 3 + 2 = 5 . Check die: 4 Zach's looks clearly states that he isn't buying that for one second. For one thing, there's the incident with Harriet, Roger and Goldie... Lucian says, "Yup. Lucian successfully resonated. He's telling the truth-as-he-believes-it." Cosmo says, "NM. Didn't beat the check die anyway." You say, "On /what/ specific point is it you are innocent, Lucian?" You have 2 xp votes remaining. Cosmo narrows his eyes, watching the slippery serpent. "Yes, Lucian, after all, I freely admit I have used my resonance on Harriet. So if you are just as innocent as I, then doesn't that mean you /have/ used it?" Zach hi5s Cosmo! :) Harriet oohs and giggles! Cosmo says, "high5s back. Your pose inspired me. yay Team Divine." Lucian says, "Well done, Cos. :) I still get 5 minutes, though, worth of Resonance time - I think I've not used it up yet in one pose, have I?" Zach says, "Of course you haven't! :)" Lucian whews. :) Cosmo wouldn't think so, no. Lucian shakes his head. "I meant that the two of you had misled Harriet about your true nature for a certain period of time as well. My apologies if I was unclear," he says, smiling towards Harriet. "I would be greatly careful, Harriet. You have already seen proof that these individuals themselves can utter falsehoods with nary a problem. Already, they have created a rather unpleasant rift between yourself and I, one which I greatly regret." He looks genuinely sorrowful. Harriet says, "I have to believe this, don't I?" Lucian says, "'Fraid so." Zach says, "It's the God's honest truth!" Lucian says, "And technically, I didn't even lie about any of those things. :)" Harriet's eyes flicker to Cosmo and Zach, and she frowns and squirms even more. "It was neccessary, not to tell me, you know? And," her hands clench against each other, "there's a difference between lying, and forcing people to believe your lies. Or, for that matter, your truths. My mind is my own, and /no/ one has the right to go messing with it." She frowns at Lucian, and her mind chews through his words some more. "Wait...so you're not saying that you didn't use your," she glances at Cosmo, "'resonance' on me?" She rubs at her temple in confusion. Zach leans his head slightly to one side and regards Lucian with a steely gaze. Softly he says, "Lucian.. You still haven't answered her quiestion. Have you resonated her at any time? Yes or no. I have." Yeah. He'd look sorrowful alright. Just let Cosmo through a solid punch. /That'll/ bring him some sorrow. "We didn't accuse you of hiding your demonic nature. We accused you of using your resonance." He keeps a hand on Harriet's arm. He knows this is confusing. And battle is always hard. Make no mistake, this is a battle. To (Zach, Cosmo), Harriet pages: And she's not going to like the 'kite resonance, either, although it won't create as much instinctive revulsion. :) From afar, to (Harriet, Zach): Cosmo chuckles. Yeah, I can see how she wouldn't like it. You paged (Harriet, Cosmo) with 'We're like Santa Claus, we know when you've been Good and Bad. :)'. To (Cosmo, Zach), Harriet pages: Heh. She actually will problems with just about every resonance except Seraphim, Cherubim, Ofanim, Calabim, and Djinn. Just wait 'till she finds out about Shedim! From afar, to (Harriet, Zach): Cosmo hehs. I imagine she's gonna have to get adjusted to the whole 'Killing is okay, it is just Murder that's bad.' thing too. To (Zach, Cosmo), Harriet pages: Ha! Good luck on that one. She has very strict views about violence. From afar, to (Harriet, Zach): Cosmo Maybe we should turn her over to Flowers? Lucian sighs and frowns. Still in my five minutes, y'think? Zach will wait for Lucian's pose and then pose out. I'd say you were, Lu... Cosmo would say so too. Lucian sorries to Harriet. To (Cosmo, Zach), Harriet pages: Although...it occurs to me that now that she knows that there is an afterlife, those views might change, slightly. Harriet says, "S'okay. :)" You paged (Harriet, Cosmo) with 'Novalis would definitely approve of her pacifism.'. You paged (Harriet, Cosmo) with 'Hachilah'll just _love_ Harriet! :)'. Lucian sighs, heavily. "Mister Ellis, you are as persistent as a door-to-door salesman, and about as annoying," he says. "If memory serves, the singular time that Harriet has ever even been privy to my uses of my Resonance were when I was speaking with Lieutenant Freeman, and..." He chuckles, still amused by the memory. "And I had attempted, unsuccessfully, to ensure that he believed a very true statement." He inclines his head towards Zach. "You had, indeed, offered me illegal drugs, after all." Lucian says, "Oops. If I can add one sentence?" Harriet says, "Go ahead. :)" Zach says, "sure" "At that time, my focus was on the officer, and I did not deliberately include Harriet within my efforts, although it is not inconcievable that she was caught up in it, as she WAS standing within earshot." He shrugs. Zach just stares at Lucian, then starts laughing. After a few seconds he restrains it into a shicker. "That's a yes then. I don't for a second belive that's the only time you've balseraphed her, but be that as it may." He chuckles some more in amusement. "Yeah I gave you a doobie, and you smoked it. And Roger was well aware of this - I told him prior to the actual pow-wow you and I had." Zach's jacket starts to emit ghastly ululations from the floor. It sounds like the Polish Free-Jazz ensemble has hired an egyptian oboist to write their so-called music. Zach starts and nearly waves his wineglass over in his haste to dive for the jacket and the wailing cellphone within it. He answers the phone in a snappish, annoyed voice. Words are all clipped, and his level of annoyance and consternation rises as it becomes clear that there is a Level A emergency at work and that he and his tow truck are needed at the site of a major accitend over Johnson County way. "Lucian," Harriet says, wringing her hands, "you tried to use it on /Roger/? That's /wrong/, Lucian." She looks at him, pained and angry. "It doesn't matter if it was the truth or not! You can't just change people's minds like that. It's not right...how would you like it I changed your thoughts to suit /me/?" She glares at him, indicating that if she did, he'd really not enjoy it. "You must not do that any more. It's wrong." Harriet looks over at Zach, startled and wide-eyed. "You have to go, Zach?" Cosmo bobs his head to Zach. "I'll handle the serpent. Go." He turns his focus back on Lucian. He's quiet while Harriet speaks. He leaves his hand on her arm. Just a solid prescence. If only Redemptions were that easy. "I'm here, Harriet. I'm not leaving." Zach stands up very reluctantly. "I appologise for leaving at this point, Harriet. But there are lives on the line... Thank you for the ice cream and the lasagna and....everything." He moves over to hug her. Lucian glances towards Zach and waggles his fingers in a wave. "Do drive safely, Mister Ellis. It would upset me to learn that your Vessel had been obliterated in an accident on the open road." He smiles, but it's not a terribly pleasant smile. Harriet stands up to hug and be hugged. "It's okay," she says with a smile, "I understand. Go, help people, you know? And be safe." She glares over at Lucian. You whisper "You are Loved. Hold true to your heart and you will be fine." to Harriet. Zach kisses her on the cheek, waves to Cosmo and Lucian and zips out like greased lightning. Zach says, "Thank you all for the GREAT rp!!" Lucian says, "Rock on, Zach." Cosmo says, "What he said. :)" Harriet HUGS. "Thanks for staying up this long! Sleep well!" Zach will! Unless I start dreaming about this scene. ;P
