This is a selection of weapons produced by Daufesk Hardware, of the People's Systematic Technocratic Republic of Daufesk, and exported to many societies throughout the region (in addition to being used by the Self-Defense Forces of the P.S.T.R. of Daufesk itself). They are all constructed according to the rules in GURPS Vehicles, second edition, and the latest collection of optional rules (from the keyboard of Mr. Pulver, with suggestions by other worthy parties) that has seen the light of day on the GURPS mailing list as of early December, 1996. Daufesk Hardware designs and manufactures many fine weapons, often utilizing cutting-edge state-of-the-art technology. In the universe where Daufesk Hardware exists, state of the art means TL9, with one major exception: Energy banks are nowhere near as efficient as "standard" TL9 power cells. There are two main types of energy bank used, the cheapest and thus most common is what may be termed "TL9 advanced batteries"; they are to TL8 advanced batteries as TL9 power cells are to TL8 power cells. As a more expensive (but lighter and more compact) alternative, superconducting materials are used to make energy banks. Both types are statted out below; superconducting power cells are generally used for military applications (as well as in vehicles where a lower mass has a higher priority than lower cost). TL9 Advanced Battery: Each kWh of energy bank weighs 2.4 lbs, takes up 0.048 cf, and costs $72. They are rechargeable. TL9 Superconducting Power Cell: Each kWh of energy bank weighs .72 lbs, takes up 0.0072 cf, and costs $216. They are rechargeable. Since energy banks are fairly massive and bulky, high-energy weapons are less attractive than in a "standard" TL9 universe, particularly for use as smallarms. However, various beam weapons *are* used in specialised roles -- laser rifles are unequalled as sniper weapons, for example, due to their superior range. Electromagnetically propelled projectile weapons are much more energy-effective than beam weapons, and are therefore quite useful as rifles and pistols -- however, their exorbitant cost keeps them out of the hands of all but the most well-equipped elite troops. For the cost-conscious defense department or corporate security division accountant, though, chemically propelled projectile weapons still turn out to give the best "bang for the buck". Daufesk hardware also uses antimatter for many energy-intensive applications (most significantly in antimatter-thermal rockets), but it is not very useful as a weapon, since the smallest practical antimatter containment vessels mass 500 lbs -- and a similar punch can be packed into a much smaller warhead using various other methods.
