Vancesoft Triton librarian (1.0.2.0) - shareware

Vancesoft has released a librarian for the triton! I will appreciate a review if anyone can take the time...Link

emagic sounddiver (3.0) - commercial application

sounddiver by emagic currently supports editing and librarian functions for the triton series and expansion boards (incl. pcm 01-4 and moss!). Click here for details about the triton model.

Sample management

In general:

The triton supports loading triton sample files with full precision. It also allows loading the sample-part of akai s1000 format files (no envelope/filter etc) and *.wav, *.aiff files ( uncompressed raw waveform files for windows and mac systems, respectively). It will only save triton file types. If you want to save and load other filetypes, you will have to use computer convertor software. BTW, triton does not support smdi or midi sampledump. Therefore, the only way to load and dump samples is via the built-in 3.5" diskette drive, or the optional scsi interface and a scsi drive (cd, hd or removable media).

Awave studio (7.0)

Awave by fmjsoft is a piece of software no sample-users can live without. Supports nearly all new and old sample-formats, incl. akai, triton, kurzweil etc. Limited demo downloadable from their web-site. Full-version allows batch-converting (select all samples on a cd, select triton as destination, and get a cup of coffee). Unfortunately, does not support voicing parameters (*.pcg), so some editing will be necessary.

Audio translator (rel.1b26)

Audio translator by Chickensoft is a program made by a professional sound-design company, purely for converting soundlibraries between different platforms. Triton/Trinity support is currently being implemented, and promises to allow triton users to access Akai, Emu, Roland, Gigasampler, Kurzweil and even Fairlight (!) libraries with synth parameters. Please note that due to differences in architecture ( and enormous work-load), all parameters cant be converted. Worst case, only adsr envelope for amplitude is implemented. Hopefully, basic pitch/amplitude/filter envelope and modulation is supported. perhaps basic fx settings, too. It seems that Chickensys is making one model for each convertion (korg-akai, korg-emu etc). This makes it possible to implement more details, but increase the workload (and time consumed) for each new source/destination. Compared to designing a "least common denominator" imaginary model, and then making the different supporting convertion to and from that.

General software

Cool edit

Sample editor for the pc. Very easy to use, while powerful and high-quality. Cooledit 2000 and Cooledit pro available.Link

Interesting musical software (non triton)

Propellerhead Reason (1.0)

Highly anticipated software modular synth, just released. Actually contains a "rack" of analog, digital synths, samplers, fx, sequencers. It is even possible to look at the back and move cables, interfacing each unit. Link

Native Instruments

Plugin and standalone software instruments. Highlights include Reaktor (modular synth, low-level programming possible), B4 (Hammond organ clone), Pro52 (sequential circuits prophet 5 clone) and more. All can run on a decent computer without any additional hardware! Link
