In the army now...

Part I: The Værnes Experience!

Starring: Erik Adli, Stian Dahlslett

Ah - one year off from the school - in the army - how different a life wouldn't that be. The first job was to get in the mood, cut the hair and get the real KILLER look.

And the first days and weeks, we thought that this would be a life full of physical activities, real hard work and all the out-in-the-woods-playing-games things.

And maybe, one day, we would get the attractive status as VETERANS!

but... In the end - Værnes was the part of the Norwegian Airforce - and sadly I have to say that the following pictures do the "Værnes Experience" more justice... :)

For instance, one of our *2* days out in the forest went on something like this:

and in the end, maybe the sort of memories which I will remember most strongly is the washing bucket...

Seriously, I now remember the days at Værnes as a great time - but like I said, some more real military activity wouldn't have been too bad - at Værnes we had to do all the cool stuff ourselves... :)

Anyway - after two months the "fun" was over - and I was appointed to the remote island of Andøya...

Part II: The Andøya Adventure!

After two weeks of "winterwar" I went straight to the more comfortable position as educational assistant!

Although we educational assistants generally were nice people we just ended up in "BUA" all the time!

So as my position in the Airforce now made that I didn't get any more fighting-training (except for the occasional struggle with the management, that is... :), I haven't any more nice army-pictures to show off.

However, the great thing with Andøya was it's and it's surroundings fabulous nature! And since Andøya is pretty far away from home and everything in general, we had plenty of time to explore it. Like here:

Fabulous beach, isn't it??? And it's even possible to bath in the sea in the summer:

Background: Bleiksøya - popular with local birds

Foreground: Håkon - popular with the local "birds" :)

Yes, folks! This is Andøya - way north of the arctic circle - and this day it just felt way better than being in Greece!

Something else that I really liked with being on Andøya was the good comradehood there. Whatever you would do, there was always someone there to join in:

Ole and me on foottrip on Senja

And you really have to make friends with people, after all you have to live on the same room with them for 10 months... Just as an example: would you voluntary spend 10 months in the same room as this guy: ???

The Psycho at 202

Well - I survived - and we even became good friends! (And he isn't really as bad as the above picture shows all the time.. :)

So, anyway, I think I was quite lucky with my stay in the Norwegian Army - and for all you guys out there who has yet to do the infamous military service, feel free to mail me about the Airforce or Andøya!
